He hadn’t even given them more than a passing thought since he came to Gladen Hills. First I'd like to say there are very few options when it comes to literary fiction in terms of the college years and on top of that, everyone immediately thinks 'Animal House' when the topic comes up. This book is NOT Animal House in any way beyond that it’s set at college with fraternities and sororities. This is more of a drama with comedy sprinkled throughout. Essentially college is all about growing up, except it's the sequel to high school. Unfortunately high school novels take most of the cake so there's very little left for anything else. Having said that, this book was bound to be enjoyable strictly from being such a 'novel' concept but it's also incredibly engrossing. There are tons of characters but they are all vivid and unique. The story is told from the perspective of eight different kids (five guys and three girls) going through life at a small school in Upstate Ohio. Most of the characters are involved in fraternities and sororities and both sides of the spectrum are covered thoroughly. Flashbacks are used sparingly to further illustrate the characters and their world but everything flows nicely and it’s not hard to follow. Overall this is an intriguing story with layered characters that deserves a read!Product details

One More Night The Alpha Chapter Jamie Jordan 9781520211442 Books Reviews
10/10!! A great read! As a high school teacher, I am always looking for good books to engage my students who often don't like reading and despite how long the book is I think this would be great for any teen who doesn't like the books they have to read in school. Great read, makes me want a beer, goes by quickly even though its long.
Absolutely incredible. So many characters and so many amazing storylines. I was never personally involved in the Greek life in college, but truly enjoyed learning about it from this perspective. The writer totally snags your attention with the way he comes at each character. Such a great read and would highly recommend!
I liked this book a lot, some of it fit my idea of what a frat is like but quite a bit was different. I went military, not college, but the initiation process had more similarities to military training then I would have thought so it was relatable. The brotherhood that developed really intrigued me, even if the goals were different. I also liked seeing things from the sorority side too, although some of it was obvious that a guy wrote this, wasn't always an authentic woman's perspective. Overall though, a good read, funny and intriguing.
I have nothing but great things to say about this book. When I initially started the book, I thought I had started something I wouldn't be able to finish. The content was something I couldn't relate to. However, as I progressed through, the character development and stories lines were so addictive I couldn't put it down. As I traveled through this story I found several times when I did actually relate more than I thought I ever would. The author's ability to write is evident in the wonderful "easy" narrative. I would happily pick this book up for a second read & have recommend it to many people.
PSA - I hate reading. But took a suggestion on getting this book. As lengthy as it was and as many characters thought/stories I had to manage in my imagination, this book intrigued me soo much, I read it in less than a week.
Without going into the story too much, this book wasn't what i expected. I loved it's fresh insight of Greek life compared to typical stereotypes we are accustomed to seeing in the media. The character developement flowed well in this interwoven story. I enjoyed the memorable moments each character went through, hard, easy, funny and sad.
I'm overall very pleased with my choice in reading this book. Since this book is a part of a series, I'm now eagerly waiting to read the next book this author publishes. Truly a great read!!
It took some time to get into this book. I wasn't sure I could relate to it as my college experience was drastically different. It felt like there were too many characters to keep track of. However, it didn't take long to become completely invested in them. Sometimes I wanted to punch them in the face, and sometimes I just wanted to hug them. I can appreciate any writing that actually makes me feel something either way. By the end of this book I was wishing it wouldn't end, and nostalgia for my own college days hit me like a freight train. I was going to give this book a 4 star review but I finished it several days ago and can't stop thinking about it. Looking forward to more of Jordan's work.
If you search “college stories” on , you’ll get a bunch of ridiculous things, but mostly just sexual fantasies. This book is about the real experience that kids go through while being away at school with no real adult supervision. It almost reads like a memoir although it’s clearly not. The viewpoint changes constantly and the dialogue flows well. Within a page or two of every sequence you really feel like you know each character and it helps when you get to hear their thoughts too. I basically felt like a fly on the wall during each scene. I also mentioned that this story feels ‘real’, which means not everything is politically correct. The characters do drugs, drink a lot, and yes, haze too (it is after all a story about fraternities and sororities). The thing that grabbed me most about these things though is they aren’t presented in a positive or negative light; they just exist in this world freely. Overall, this book kept my attention just because I felt like I’d never read anything like it. I look forward to whatever comes next!
